After seeing Beauty
and the Beast this weekend and reading Raphael’s post, I agree that Emma
Watson possesses a unique star persona. Throughout the film I was drawn to her
character and her acting talent. I believe she is a rare example of a female
star who’s career has grown because of raw talent, and who keeps her fans
engaged through her genuine personality.
I agree with Raphael that she possesses similar qualities to
her character, Belle. She is fierce, independent, and seeks to be different,
just like Belle. In real life, I think she also seeks to be different,
especially in comparison to other female stars. Attending Brown University,
Watson took a pause in her career to pursue academic studies. Her decision to
study at an Ivy League college in America is rare for a female star of her age.
Emma Watson is not afraid to share her opinion, either.
While critiqued for a recent photo shoot wearing a revealing outfit, Emma claims,
“I’m not sure what feminism and my boobs have to do with one and other”. She
passionately speaks about her definition of feminism and how it is not “a stick
to beat other women with”. I strongly agree with Watson’s eloquent words and
ability to stand up for herself. Her ability to speak organically and with such
passion in interviews truly shows her genuine personality.
